DBI2 Training Week

The Dutch Brain Interface Initiative (DBI2) is a consortium consisting of 60 researchers working at one of 8 Dutch organizations. The aims of DBI2 are to get a better understanding of cognition and brain function using neurotechnology (https://dbi2.nl/).

This year’s Training Week was organized in a beautiful rural convent close to Nijmegen, which is part of the Radboud University. For four days, neuro-, material- and computational scienists from the consortium all came together to introduce eachother to their field of expertise and to create a shared vocabulary. I was invited to give talks about 'Electrophysiology’ and ‘Visual Neuroscience’, and I much enjoyed questions from people with such varying backgrounds. These four days were relatively content heavy, but there was some space for social activities as well!

It was quite an experience to sleep in the dorms of deceased nuns, with relics and creepy paintings all round. Whilst discussing novel tools within the modern field of neuroscience. Two worlds that couldn’t be further apart, yet it provided a setting that was actually quite inspirational for these four days! I’m thankful for the junior board of DBI2 for organizing the training week and am already looking forward to next year’s edition!
